The recommendation is to have the EOLYS topped up every 3 years rather than the whole DPF replaced IIRC. Mine went because the previous owner hadn't had it done and it had run out. Both times I've been able to reset it by stopping and starting the engine. It's done 141k and is 6.5 years old.
